The idea for our store, CASA LUCIA, started 20 years ago on a trip to Guatemala and Mexico. We were impressed by the culture and the resourcefulness of the Mexican people. We loved their handcrafted pottery, the folk art , the sterling silver jewellery, and the hand loomed textiles. We met the artisans who make everything by hand using traditional methods. We opened our store in the tiny tourist town of Bloomfield, an improbable location, but it worked!
Today we still source everything ourselves on frequent trips to many parts of Mexico. We are still impressed with the diversity of this fascinating country and have formed many strong relationships with the families who supply our goods. There is no middleman; we buy directly from our artisans and ship the goods ourselves (you may have heard our woeful stories of trying to get our trailer across the Mexican/U.S.border). All this results in unique products that we are able to offer at amazingly low prices.
